Wanuskewin Galleries Mission Statement
Wanuskewin Galleries provides gallery space in which Indigenous artists can present and develop their work on both a professional and creative level. We are committed to showcasing the work of Indigenous artists, curators and creators, uniquely suited with Indigenous consultation and control to give an accurate representation of Indigenous ways of knowing.
Wanuskewin Galleries will develop, present and promote media, visual and performance art by contemporary and traditional Indigenous artists, framing all programming and exhibitions within Indigenous worldviews. We will facilitate the development, presentation and promotion of works by contemporary and traditional Indigenous artists, along with historical exhibits, allowing the preservation of Indigenous artistic practices and allowing Indigenous self-determination and self-representation.

CALL FOR ARTISTS!
We are looking for emerging to mid-level artists for a group exhibition titled love stories from the land. This exhibition is open to Indigenous artists from all mediums. The theme is Strength in Our Land, highlighting the vitality of Saskatchewan’s natural resources with a focus on the many aspects of the ecology of the grasslands. Five artists will be selected to exhibit in our gallery from August-November 2023. Each artist will be paid CARFAC artist fees, as well as an artist talk fee if they choose to participate in the opening event.
Eligibility
Open to Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Metis) who are professional visual artists, defined as: someone who has developed skills through training or practice, recognized by artists working in the same artistic tradition, has a history of public presentation or publication, seeks payment for their work and is committed to devoting more time to their artistic activity. There will be a priority to Saskatchewan artists.
Application
To apply, all artists should include applicant details (name, address, contact information), biography/artist statement and CV, and support materials (previous works, work proposed for exhibition). Send all info to curator@wanuskewin.com.
Deadline
April 30th. Artists will be informed by May 15th, 2023. All artworks selected for the exhibition must be completed by June 30th.
